NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Regis Philbin was a 1953 Notre Dame grad and never lost his love for the school. Philbin didn’t make the choice to go to Notre Dame — it was actually his father’s. He made the decision for his son while he was in the marines listening to a marine who played football at Notre Dame tell stories. It was Philbin’s wish to be buried at his alma mater. He graduated from Notre Dame with a sociology degree. Philbin died Friday at the age of 88. He was one month shy of his 89th birthday.
