James D. Riffe

James D. Riffe, 85, of Rockville, Indiana passed away at 1:54 am Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He retired from Eli Lilly and Company in Clinton and Indianapolis after many years of service.

He was born May 22, 1935 in Stirrat, West Virginia to the late George Riffe and Irene Mitchum Riffe. His wife of 57 years, Helen L. Copley Riffe whom he married July 27, 1957 in Wise, Virginia passed away June 26, 2015.

Survivors include, four sons, Dave (Becky) Riffe of Decatur, Alabama, Jeff (Michelle) Riffe of Rockville, John (Nam) Riffe of Rockville, and Kevin (Brooke) Riffe of Rockville; twin daughters, Carolynn (Michael) Ball of Noblesville and Marilynn (Jamie) Hoover of Bloomingdale; 14 grandchildren, Jennifer Tunison, Josh Riffe, Nyla Arnold, Amanda (Riffe) Mapp, Megan (Riffe) Daciola, Nerina Zandy, Nathaniel Forbeck, Akash Lewis, Emma Riffe, Steven Ball, Stephanie (Ball) Beale, Cameron Ball, Alexis (Berry) Degano and Cade Hoover; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was a 1953 graduate of Logan West Virginia High School. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Rockville First Baptist Church. He served as a little league and softball coach for many years and umpired many games. He was preceded in death by a grandson, James Jacob Riffe on August 31, 1993 and a step-brother, Clifford Bailey.

Services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, November 1, at the Rockville First Baptist Church, 1250 S. U.S. Highway 41, Rockville, with Pastors Mark Copley, Robert Barger and Josh Riffe officiating. Burial with military graveside honors by Parke County veterans will follow at Beacon Hill Cemetery south of Rockville. Visitation is 4-8 pm Saturday at the Rockville First Baptist Church.
