Vigo County, In. – A deer and two dogs were rescued in eastern Vigo County on Tuesday after they fell through the ice of a pond off Terri Lynn Street. The property owner called for assistance about 11:30 a.m. Seelyville firefighters and five technical rescue personnel from the Sugar Creek department responded, and while wearing orange ice suits, they were able to slide across the surface to reach the hole where the deer was trapped, slip a rope around the deer, and pull it to safety. The dogs were rescued by a local resident. They say the ice on the pond varied in thickness, and it was unsafe. It is a reminder they say, to stay off the ice now everywhere due to the varying temperatures we have been experiencing. All the animals survived in the end, and nobody was hurt rescuing them.
