Intoxicated driver in Vermillion County crash

HILLSDALE — On Saturday at 10:42 a.m. Vermillion County 911 received a report of a traffic accident on US 36 near Third street in Hillsdale.

Deputies arrived to find a 2003 Mustang driven by Kristopher Posthauer of Dana, against the wall of the bridge on US 36.

Investigation and witness accounts showed that Posthauer was attempting to pass vehicles on a double yellow line at a high rate of speed. Posthauer then lost control of his vehicle; crashing into a guardrail and then into the concrete wall of the bridge.

Posthauer was taken to Union Hospital Clinton to be medically cleared. Posthauer was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.32%. Posthauer’s blood work also showed controlled substances in his system.

Posthauer was transported to the Vermillion County Jail and booked on the following charges:
Count 1 – Operating a Vehicle with a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance or its Metabolite in the body
Count 2 – Operating a Vehicle with a Blood Alcohol Concentration of 0.15% or higher
Count 3 – Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Endangering a Person
Count 4 – Reckless Driving
Posthauer is being held on $9,000.00 bond with no 10% allowed.
