BRAZIL – Clay County Emergency Management Director Rob Gambill is applying for a grant to help improve security for the county’s computer system.

This grant, the 2023 State Homeland Security Grant does not require a match from the county. Last year, the county received $20,000 from the grant.

“This is badly needed,” said Commissioner Paul Sinders. Commissioners Bryan Allender and Marty Heffner nodded in agreement.

In an unrelated business, the commissioners passed 3-0 on first and second reading an ordinance that will require utilities to obtain a county permit before installing anything in the county’s right-of-way along roads.

Sinders and Allender said this has become a problem. In addition to obtaining a permit, utilities will be required to adhere to certain regulations.
