INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis City-County Council will begin its consideration of a proposal to change Marion County’s gun laws.

Mayor Joe Hogsett is calling on city-county councilors to raise the legal age to buy a firearm to 21, ban semi-automatic rifles such as AR-15s, and prohibit permitless carry and concealed carry in the county. This comes as the city’s homicides by guns are on pace to surpass the number of fatal shootings that happened last year.

Proposal 156 will be introduced to the City-County Council tonight where it is expected to be referred to the Public Safety and Criminal Justice Committee for a public hearing.
