Street fight escalates into gunfire

TERRE HAUTE – On Sunday, June 4, 2023 at approximately 7:35 p.m. Terre Haute Police Department Uniformed Officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of 2nd Ave for the report of several individuals actively fighting in the roadway. The first officer arrived on scene in less than one minute and located numerous people fighting in and around the street. Amongst the fighting the arriving officer observed two males in the roadway and one of them had a handgun in their hand. As the officer was approaching the two males and giving commands the suspect, Gaden Cunningham, fired the handgun striking the victim in arm. Cunningham immediately fled between parked vehicles and concealed himself. The officer was able to order Cunningham out from hiding and take him into custody without further incident. A handgun was recovered on scene.

THPD Uniformed Officers provided medical attention to the victim to include the use of a tourniquet and the Terre Haute Fire Department transported the victim to Union Hospital.

THPD Detectives were called to the scene to assist in the investigation. As a result of the initial investigation multiple individuals were arrested for their involvement in the incident.

Gaden G. Cunningham, 21, of Terre Haute (pictured) was placed under arrest for Battery-Committed with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Battery, Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon and Intimidation.

JNaela Cunningham, 23, of Terre Haute, was placed under arrest for Battery with Bodily Injury.

Shanassie Marshall, 20, of Terre Haute, was placed under arrest for Battery with Bodily Injury.
