Sentence Upheld For Man Convicted Of Covered Bridge Arson

ROCKVILLE, Ind. – The Indiana appeals court has affirmed the 90-year prison sentence of Jesse Payne.

He was accused of setting fire to the Bridgeton Covered Bridge and the bridge in Mansfield in 2005.

At the time he was determined to be mentally ill and not competent to stand trial.

After treatment at a mental hospital he was declared fit to stand trial in 2017.

He was convicted of arson and the appeals court rejected arguments from Payne’s lawyers that his conviction was improper.
