Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson told reporters Tuesday that quarterback Trevor Lawrence sustained a right high ankle sprain during the team’s 34-31 overtime loss to to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that ‘#Jaguars coach Doug Pederson says QB Trevor Lawrence has “just a right high-ankle sprain.” Everything looks stable and they’ll see how he looks this week,’ and that whenasked if Trevor Lawrence has a legitimate shot to play Sunday vs. Cleveland, Pederson says he’s not going to put a timetable on it and reiterates they’ll see how he looks in a couple of days.’

Pederson said that the injury is not expected to require surgery; and when asked about the 24-year-old Lawrence’s availability for Sunday’s matchup against the Cleveland Browns, he would not rule him out, but avoided placing a timeline on his return. Pederson said he would like to have Lawrence at “100%” before he returns; if he is unable to play, Lawrence’s backup is C.J. Beathard, who went 9-of-10 for 63 yards in his absence Monday night.

Lawrence went down in the fourth quarter after being tackled when Jaguars left tackle Walker Little was pushed toward him by Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, and inadvertently stepped on his right ankle. Lawrence struggled to get up and was seen limping to the locker room with the assistance of Jaguars staff.
